The Forsaken – Privacy Policy
The Forsaken is a single-player text adventure for iPhone and iPad. This policy explains what information the game uses. The short version: we don't ask for an account, a name or an email address, and your game stays on your device.
What is stored on your device
Your saved game, journal, inventory, settings (such as text size and sound) and the record of what you have purchased are stored locally on your device. We do not receive a copy. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it, except where Apple's own backup and iCloud features keep a copy under your Apple settings.
What we collect
We don't collect your name, email address or any account details, and we don't operate a server that holds your game.
The game includes a setting called Share anonymous usage data (Menu → Settings → Privacy). If a version sends usage data, it is limited to anonymous events such as which room or puzzle was reached, whether a hint was used, and which ending was found. These events never include anything you type, your name, your email, your location or any device identifier, and they can't be linked to you. You can switch the setting off at any time and the game plays exactly the same.
Advertising
The game is free to start and includes optional rewarded videos: if you choose to watch a short video, you earn a hint token. Videos are never shown unless you ask for one. Ads are provided by Google AdMob.
When ads are requested, Google and its partners may collect and use information from your device, such as your IP address, device and app information, how you interact with an ad, and, only if you allow tracking, your device's advertising identifier. This is used to deliver and measure ads, to prevent fraud, and, if you allow it, to show more relevant ads. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services and Google's Privacy Policy.
Your choices:
- When the game first starts, iOS asks whether the app may track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. Choose Ask App Not to Track and you will still be able to watch videos, but they will not be personalised.
- You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and reset your advertising identifier in the same place.
- In some regions (for example the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom) Google's consent message appears, and a button in Menu → Settings → Privacy Information → Ad Privacy Choices lets you change your answer later.
- You never need to watch a video to finish the game.
Purchases
The Forsaken offers optional in-app purchases (the full game and hint tokens). Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details. To restore a purchase on a new device the game asks the App Store which purchases are linked to your Apple ID. The game uses Unity's in-app purchasing library to talk to the App Store.
Information we do not collect
- No account, name, email address or phone number.
- No location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera access.
- We ourselves do not read your advertising identifier. It is used only by Google's ad service, and only if you allow tracking.
Children
The Forsaken is a mystery with dark themes and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Purchases require the Apple ID holder's approval under Apple's own controls, such as Ask to Buy.
Third parties
The game is built with the Unity engine and runs on your device. Apple handles purchases and any backups you have enabled, and Google AdMob provides the optional videos. Each has its own privacy policy. We do not sell personal information, and we do not receive the information Google collects for advertising.
Your choices
You can delete your saved game from within the app, turn off anonymous usage sharing in Settings, decline or change tracking permission in iOS Settings, or delete the app to remove its local data. Because we hold no personal information about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our servers. To exercise rights over data held by Google for advertising, use Google's own tools linked above.
Changes to this policy
If the game's data practices change, this page will be updated and the date above will change before that version is released.
